L: 93cm B: 17cm H: 82cm

The ship was originally commissioned by the French Navy as the corvette Unité in 1794. The Unité was captured by the Royal Navy in 1796, taken over and renamed “HMS Surprise”.

It became known as the ship that in 1799 abducted HMS Hermione and its mutinous crew from a Spanish harbor, and it served as the model for the frigate of the same name in Patrick O’Brian’s novels.

HMS Surprise was decommissioned in February 1802.
