Normandie was a French passenger ship of the “Compagnie Générale Transatlantique” (CGT), also known as the French Line, which entered service in 1935. At the time of her completion, she was the largest ship in the world and repeatedly held the “Blue Riband” during her service life.

To this day, because of her striking Art Deco design, her exceptionally spacious interiors and the clean lines of her exterior form, she is regarded as a milestone in passenger shipbuilding. She is often described as the perfect passenger ship.

The ship, which was seized when the USA entered the Second World War, caught fire in 1942 during conversion work into a troop transport due to negligent welding at the CGT pier in Manhattan. The ship capsized at the pier and, after a very costly salvage operation, was scrapped in 1946.
