Pen Duick (Green, Black)

Built in 1898 as “Yum”, this yacht was designed as a racing yacht for the 20-rater yacht class. Her first racing season was immediately quite successful: a 4th place in her first regatta on June 17, 1899, at the Royal Corinthian Club was followed only by 1st and 2nd places.

After numerous sales and name changes, Pen Duick came into the possession of Eric Tabarly. While this boat was laid up and continuously renovated, Eric Tabarly achieved worldwide fame with his other Pen Duicks. Pen Duick did not sail again until July 9, 1989.

Pen Duick’s 100th birthday in 1998 was celebrated in grand style in Brittany. Pen Duick was also expected in Fairlie, the workplace of Pen Duick’s famous designer William Fife, for this occasion. On the way to Scotland, Eric Tabarly went overboard on the night of June 12 to 13, 1998, and drowned.

Since then, the “Association Eric Tabarly” has taken care of preserving the Pen Duicks.
