Ranger is the name of a sailing yacht built in 1937 by Bath Iron Works in Bath according to the rules of the J Class for the America’s Cup. She was the largest J Class yacht ever built and was therefore also called Super J.
Owner and skipper Harold S. Vanderbilt outclassed his opponents at the 16th America’s Cup in 1937 and won 35 of 37 races with Ranger that same year.
Ranger was taken out of service again as early as the end of 1937 and scrapped for the war in 1941. However, faithful replicas of the ship exist today.
