The design for Tuiga was drawn in 1908 by William Fife III. The yacht was built for the Duke of Medinaceli and looked confusingly similar to the Spanish king’s “Hispania”.
Both yachts competed against each other in many races, although Tuiga was never able to defeat the “Hispania”. Later the yacht changed owners frequently and her condition deteriorated significantly.
In Cyprus, Tuiga was discovered in 1989 by Duncan Walker, owner of “Fairlie Restorations”. Walker acquired Tuiga for a lover of classic yachts and transferred the makeshift patched-up yacht to Mallorca in winter. The journey proved difficult; Tuiga leaked so badly that the crew seriously considered abandoning the boat. In March, Tuiga was taken to England and faithfully restored at “Fairlie Restorations”. Since then, Tuiga has been the flagship of the Yacht Club de Monaco.

This model was made 100% by hand and with precision using traditional plank-on-frame construction with hull planking.
Among other things, exotic fine woods such as teak, mahogany, rosewood or mango are used, resulting in a valuable and decorative premium model as the finished product.
After completion, the hull is carefully sanded and painted where intended. The model is then coated with a protective clear varnish.
Ornaments and decorations (e.g. cannons, portholes, anchors, dials and wheels …) are made of brass, chrome or other high-quality metals.
The sails are made of fabric or silk, the masts of wood and the rigging of strong cotton threads. Some of these ropes have special knots that allow the ropes to be retensioned at any time.
